More than 300 pilgrims are in the Holy Land participating in JPII Games  - Pilgrims of Peace.   The peace race-pilgrimage, organized jointly by Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi and the Centro Sportivo Italiano, is being held from the 21 – 25 October in the Holy Land. These dates were chosen to coincide with the liturgical feast of the Blessed John Paul II that falls on the 22 October.        “With this initiative each one of us helps to construct peace between the people of the world, and through sports we promote the values necessary for the common good,” said Father Caesar Atuire, CEO of Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi, an activity of the Vicariate of Rome, Department of the Holy See. “Peace as the Blessed John Paul II said, who this event is named after, begins with a new heart.”

Father Richard Frechette: " Peace Ambassadors"

Father Richard Frechette is one of the “peace ambassadors” who will participate in JPII Games. For more than 20 years he has served as the director of N.P.H. (Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos), a humanitarian organization that helps thousands of children build a better future. The organization is supported by the Fondazione Francesca Rava that represents N.P.H. in Italy. Father Richard will be accompanied by a group of young Haitians, by friends and other members of the Fondazione Francesca Rava – N.P.H. Italia Onlus who will run to bring peace in the Holy Land and also in Haiti.

Giusy Versace for JPII Games 2011

Giusy is a member of the international Versace family. She may have lost both of her legs in an accident but her determination and strength have helped her prevail. She is the first Italian women with her disability to win the 100 meter race!  She will be with us at JPII Games in the Holy Land from the 21 – 25 October!

Italian National Rugby Team for JPII Games 2011
