Valentina Cortese will perform “Magnificat” at JOSP Fest

JOSP Fest 2010

Valentina Cortese, one of the greatest Italian actresses, will read and interpret “Magnificat” at JOSP Fest, Journeys of the Spirit Festival, that will be held from the 14 - 17 January at the New Rome Fair Grounds.

“Magnificat,” written by recently deceased Milanese poet Alda Merini, tells the most important story: the Incarnation and Passion of Jesus Christ. The text reveals a deeply human Mary, who is faithful and in love with God, but also tormented by doubts and anguishes. These emotions bring deep pain during the passion of Christ but they are later transformed into hope during the resurrection. Cortese will perform before the JOSP Fest audience on the 16 January.

The actress was 17-years-old when she made her debut on cinema screens. She starred in numerous films that demonstrated her talent as a sensitive interpreter who had a certain intelligence. She played several high profile roles including: Sonia in Platonov by Cecov with Sarah Ferrati, Tino Buazzelli and Tino Carraro, and also had a role in L’eredita’ del Felis by Illica with Piero Mazzarella. Cortese also starred in several films including Giulietta degli spiriti by Fellini, Fratello sole e sorella luna and Gesu’ by Zeffirelli, L’assassinio di Trotskij by Losey and Effetto notte by Truffaut, which earned her an Oscar nomination.

JOSP Fest, created by Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi, an entity of the Vicariate of Rome, Department of the Holy See, organized by Quo Vadis, is an event that promotes the experiences tied to “journeys of the Spirit.” It represents a pilgrimage across continents and cultures and is the occasion to discover the beauty that the world offers to those interested in traveling and learning.
